Boston Bar, which began as a gold mining town, was named for a Dutchman who came from Boston to prospect in the 1860s. Because Boston was the home port to many of the ships bringing prospectors, local First Nations people called the newcomers Boston men. Boston Bar is a logging and trade center, with the Canadian National Railway passing through town.
